Abstract

The global tourism sector, while a significant contributor to economic growth, faces increasing scrutiny regarding its environmental and social footprint. Traditional linear economic models of "take-make-dispose" are unsustainable in the long term, necessitating a paradigm shift towards regenerative approaches. The circular economy, with its principles of keeping resources in use for as long as possible, offers a promising framework for transforming tourism into a more sustainable and resilient industry. This article explores the concept of the circular economy within the context of tourism in Delhi, a major urban destination grappling with the challenges of rapid growth and environmental pressure. Drawing upon existing literature, this paper synthesizes insights into the potential applications, benefits, and challenges of implementing circular economy principles in Delhi's visitor economy. It highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and collaborative action among stakeholders – including policymakers, businesses, and tourists – to facilitate this transition. By adopting circular practices, Delhi's tourism sector can move towards a more environmentally conscious, socially responsible, and economically resilient future, aligning with broader sustainable development goals.
